About Godfrey Opio

Discovering a Passion Early in Life

From a young age, Opio discovered his passion for music. It became more than a hobby—it was his voice, his identity, and the foundation for a lifelong journey of storytelling through sound.

A Journey in Music, Culture, and Connection?

Godfrey Opio was born with a deep connection to the rhythms of his homeland. His sound blends traditional elements with contemporary influences, creating a soulful experience that celebrates life, love, and unity.

Healing Through Music

At the age of 9, Opio lost his father, Andrew Kiwel, to the Kony Rebels. Music became his way of coping, healing, and consoling his community, turning pain into a powerful form of expression..

Music as a Universal Language

“Music is a language that transcends borders, and I am here to speak it.” Through his voice and instruments, Opio builds bridges across cultures, connecting humanity through sound.

WAR CHILD – Music as a Solution

His 2024 album, WAR CHILD, addressed the effects of war through heartfelt songs that carried messages of peace, healing, and strength.

Tradition Meets Innovation

Opio’s work is a fusion of heritage and modernity—preserving Uganda’s folk traditions while reimagining them for contemporary audiences worldwide.

Invitation to the Journey

Godfrey Opio’s music is more than melodies—it’s storytelling, healing, and connection. He invites audiences to join him in experiencing culture, hope, and humanity through song.

Taking the Message Global

In 2023, as Artistic Director of the “Dance of Hope” US Tour, Opio performed across 17 states, leading workshops and concerts that spread messages of culture, hope, and resilience.

Master of Instruments and Innovation

A multi-instrumentalist at heart, Opio mastered the Nanga, Adungu, Kalimba, Omulele, and more. His creativity led him to invent a 24-stringed instrument called “COMBO,” blending innovation with tradition.

From Village Star to Cultural Ambassado

Following the footsteps of his brothers, Opio rose as the star musician of his village, Barotiba. Through groups like Kika Troupe, M-LISADA, and World Bridge Foundation NC, he shared his gift while shaping communities through art.
